Warner Bros. has optioned Jeffrey Spivak's book "Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeley" for a biographical film adaptation, and Ryan Gosling is being considered to play the role. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Ryan Gosling is being considered to portray Busby Bekerley, the highly influential Hollywood movie director and musical choreographer. The 33-year-old Canadian actor is reported producing the biopic, along with Marc Platt. "The Ides of March" star and the British writer know for his work with the BBC science fiction television series "Doctor Who" have previously worked together on the crime film "Drive" released in 2011. The studio plans to build up the project as a star vehicle for Gosling to further boost his acting career. However, according to the report by The Hollywood Reporter Gosling may also direct the movie. The project is still on its preliminary stage, and the studio has not named any writer yet for the biopic. Berkeley has become very popular during Hollywood's golden age for his highly structured musical production numbers featuring intricate geometric patterns. For most of his works, Berkeley hired large number of dancers and used ostentatious props to produce fantasy-like and multi-faceted performances on-screen. Berkeley has garnered three Oscar nominations for best dance direction for his works on "Gold Diggers of 1935," "Gold Diggers of 1937," and "Varsity Show" in 1937. However, that same category no longer exists today. Platt is not a stranger in the world of musicals. He was just the producer of the Broadway's blockbuster hit "Wicked" and is currently in the process of developing Disney's adaptation of the Broadway musical "Into the Woods" which is set to hit the cinemas in December. He also produced "Legally Blonde" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World." If the biographical film pushed through and Gosling will be directing, this would be his second time to be a director. His directorial debut "How to Catch a Monster" is due to hit the big screen on Oct. 2 in Denmark. It was announced that Chantal Nong will manage the biopic project for Warner Bros.
